| In the Aquitaine region of South West France,
the Dordogne is, perhaps, the best known to Brits of the three départements
which comprise our area of operation (Dordogne, Lot and Correze).
Nicknamed by some media wags as Dordogneshire, the British have
long held a love-affair with this stunningly beautiful region and
it was for many years at the forefront of many a property buying
wish list. Prices have long reflected this high interest, not just
amongst Brits, but with Dutch and Northern French (particularly
Parisien) househunters.
It is hard to find un-renovated stone properties and the day of
the out and out bargain would seem to be over. It depends, though,
on how you arrive at the conclusion of "a bargain". In
terms of the other parts of our immediate search area (Lot and Correze),
then, yes, Dordogne property can be termed "expensive".
Compare like for like in Britain, though, particularly the Cotswolds
and it can be seen that Dordogne property is cheap. You simply just
get far more property for your money here in France - much more
- than you do in the UK. ....more

It is really difficult, though, to limit your
like-for-like comparison with just property prices. There is just
too much else to take into the equation. For a move to France, or
the purchase of a second home means a complete lifestyle change...
a straight swap for a less stressed, more tranquil way of life in
an area of outstanding natural beauty, kinder weather and far, far
fewer people. And cars. Whilst this can be said of most of rural
France, it would be hard to find a region such as the Dordogne river
valley where we operate our property search, that better encapsulates
'La Vie en France'. Nor any département that better
provides that French way of life than the Dordogne.
